I must say that I enjoy doing exercise or sport, and that’s why when I’m on vacation one of the first things I like to know about the place where I go is places where I can exercise, so I tell you that Barcelona is full of public spaces ideal for outdoor training, calisthenics, running or just move a little.

As a lover of sport and active life, I share with you my favorite places to train in Barcelona without spending a euro.

Beaches of Barceloneta

There is nothing like training with the sound of the waves in the background. In Barceloneta and other beaches in Barcelona there are several areas with structures for calisthenics and functional exercises.

You can find bars, pull- up bars, rings and enough space to train with your own weight.

Some of the most popular spots are:

  •  Calisthenics area in front of the Hospital del Mar
  •  Bars on the Mar Bella beach

If you’re looking for running or jogging, the whole promenade is perfect for a good cardio session. I usually go at sunrise, when it’s less crowded and the weather is cooler.

Parc de la Ciutadella

One of the most iconic places to exercise in Barcelona is Parc de la Ciutadella. Here you will always find people practicing yoga, training with their own weight or just running.

If you are interested in calisthenics, there is an area with parallel bars and pull-ups near the mammoth statue. It’s also a good place to train with elastic bands or do mobility exercises on the grass.

Personal tip: If you go early in the morning, you’ll avoid the crowds and be able to work out more quietly.

Barcelona is an amazing city to train outdoors without spending money. From urban parks to beach and mountain areas, there are options for all tastes. Best of all, the good weather allows you to enjoy outdoor exercise almost all year round.

    Parc del Poblenou

    Lately I am interested in calisthenics and I highly recommend Parc de poblenou. This park is less crowded than other parks and has one of the best calisthenics areas in the city. You will find bars of different heights, parallel bars and a large space to train freely.

    In addition, the park is very close to the beach, so you can complement your workout with a walk along the beach.

    Parc de l’Estació del Nord

    This park is a hidden gem for training. It is located near Estació del Nord and has a good calisthenics area with bars and structures for functional training. The best thing is that there are always people training, so you can find inspiration or even make friends with similar interests.

    It’s also a good place to practice boxing outdoors, as some groups often bring their gloves and do impromptu workouts.

     Apps and groups to train for free in Barcelona

    If you prefer to train in a group, there are several communities that organize free workouts in the city. Some interesting options are:

    – Meetup Barcelona Fitness: Here you can find meetups for group training, from yoga to HIIT.
    – Adidas Runners Barcelona: If you like running, this group organizes free sessions with trainers.
    – Calisthenics Barcelona: A calisthenics community where you can learn and improve your movements with people passionate about this sport.
